Search "best STEM apps for kids" and you will get a hundred listicles, most of them ranking apps by how much the writer was paid to mention them. This is not that. STEM is broad, your child is specific, and the useful question is not "which app is best" but "best at what, for whom."

First, what makes a STEM app actually good

Coding

For free, open-ended coding, ScratchJr (ages 5 to 7) and Scratch (8 and up), both from the nonprofit Scratch Foundation, are the benchmarks. Science and engineering

For the youngest children, the best "science and engineering apps" are often the ones that push kids back toward building and testing in the real world, rather than tapping through facts.
